We woke up this morning to rain and slight cold but we were excited to get back to Christchurch that night. When we got moving we had some breakfast and tore down the site as quickly as possible. When the tear down was finished, we grabbed our kit and moved down the mountain. It only took 40 minutes to go down a hill that took three hours to go up.

When we reached the river we moved to the bush and got off the beaten trail. We soon had to cross the large river, so we linked arms and moved across slowly to get to the other side. The river was so cold that we screamed when we got waist deep. The chill of it all kept us from over heating.

We were soon on the home stretch and on our way to the last river crossing. As we were walking through the open field the cattle began to run towards us. The cattle were being herded to the same place we were going so this made our travel a little difficult. As we reached the river we could see the van and soon enough we crossed and got to our van and changed into clean clothes. On the drive back everyone fell asleep and slept till we reached Wanaka. We grabbed our gear and booked it for the vans because we had a long journey to get to Christchurch. After a five-hour drive we had made it back to the YMCA in Christchurch and got settled in and quickly went to bed. Tomorrow we would be on our way back to Vancouver.

La température au réveil était pluvieuse et froide mais nous étions excités à l’idée de retourner à Christchurch pour la soirée. Après avoir déjeuné et défait le campement, nous avons entrepris le retour en descente de la montagne. Il a fallu seulement 40 minutes à descendre un chemin qui nous avait pris trois heures à monter.

En arrivant à la rivière nous sommes sortis des sentiers battus et sommes entrés dans la brousse. Rapidement il nous a fallu traverser une grande rivière, donc nous nous sommes enchainés par les bras et avons traversé lentement. Des cris se sont fait entendre alors que l’eau glaciale nous arrivait à la hauteur de la ceinture. Vous pouvez imaginer que ce froid a fait en sorte que personne ne souffrait à cause de la chaleur.

Rapidement, nous avons atteint le dernier droit et la dernière traversée de rivière. Nous avons rencontré un troupeau de bétail en traversant un champ. Le bétail était amené vers le même endroit où nous nous dirigions, ce qui allait rendre le parcours un peu plus difficile. À l’arrivée à la rivière, nous pouvions voir les camions. Nous avons donc rapidement traversé et nous nous sommes changés dans des vêtements secs. Tous ont dormi lors du trajet de retour vers Wanaka. Après un voyage de cinq heures, nous avons atteint le YMCA à Christchurch et tous se sont rapidement couchés pour la nuit. Le retour vers Vancouver se fera demain.
