Course senior today, woke everyone up at 0600 hrs. We were a little slow leaving this morning but we still left before 10 which Rob told me was good. The picture we took at “The Pulpit” seems like an epic shot because of the rising sun in the canyon. Our paddle over to Painted Face was pretty fun and relatively easy; it was especially nice once the sun came out since the morning was a bit nippy! Lunch turned out pretty well (cracker sandwiches, soup and leftover mush). The hike was pretty cool because there were fossils in the rock face which we found out the reason they were there was that a LONG TIME AGO there was this little piece of coral and sediment formed around it. After bits of pressure and seismic activity, the rock where this fossil was tilted 90 degrees to its current state. En route to the biv, we passed a few slumps and a river that had naturally occurring arsenic in it. That was caused by eroded granite leaking into the river. We pulled up to the camp around 530-6, after a solid paddle into the wind. Some of us are planning on waking up at 1 am to see the Northern Light since tomorrow is “Air Force Day” and we get to sleep in until 8 am. All in all, today was a good day and things flowed smoothly. Shame there are only 4 more days!
